Raleigh, NC (March 4, 2010) -- Larry’s Beans, Raleigh’s Fair Trade, Organic coffee roaster, will be participate as a beverage purveyor at the 25th annual “A Toast to the Triangle” Sunday, March 7. The event will be held from 5:30-8:00 p.m. at the NC State University McKimmon Center in Raleigh. Tickets to the event are $100 each and benefit the Tammy Lynn Center for Developmental Disabilities.

The 2010 “A Toast to the Triangle” invites guests to taste local cuisine, join the silent auction, and win prizes. More than 1,200 guests attended the 2009 Toast and helped raise $191,000 for the Center.

“Larry’s Beans is based around working with the community. We build Fair Trade relationships with family farm cooperatives, buy Organic, Shade Grown coffees and support our farming partners in practicing sustainable farming methods,” said Larry Larson, founder and CEO. “Being involved in A Toast to the Triangle allows us to further our relationship with the community, and benefit a great cause.”

The coffee roaster’s community concern is embedded in the company mission. Larson’s initial goal was to find the highest quality coffee, which led him to source Fair Trade Organic green coffee beans. He saw Fair Trade as a way to work with coffee farmers on a partnership level, as well as helping him get the kind of deep flavor profiles he needed for the slow-roasting style he'd been developing. But Fair Trade was just the start of Larry's Beans efforts to prove that sustainability is compatible with good business. Now, the coffee roaster runs delivery vehicles on recycled vegetable oil and has 'green-o-vated' their warehouse with natural lighting, rainwater flush toilets, reclaimed timber and edible landscaping.

Food and beverage vendors will engage in competition over best products and dishes. Awards are voted on by local judges with professions from chefs to food critics to culinary instructors.

About A Toast to the Triangle:

A Toast to the Triangle was first held on April 6, 1986 at Carolina Place. Approximately $6,000 was raised to build residential facilities at the Tammy Lynn Center. Since then, the event has been held annually to raise funds for the Tammy Lynn Memorial Foundation, Inc., which in turn supports the following programs and services of the Tammy Lynn Center for Developmental Disabilities: Community Residential, Early Childhood Intervention, Respite Care, and non-Medicaid Day Services. The event offers an astonishing array of culinary splendor from nearly 40 of the Triangle’s finest restaurants, caterers and purveyors of fine wines and specialty beers. Attracting more than 1,200 people, last year’s event raised more than $191,000 for the Center’s programs and services. To learn more about this event, please visit www.atoasttothetriangle.org.
